"...Right Book for the Right Time..."

Dean Hartwell has written a prescription for a more vibrant and muscular democracy. His book comes at a critical juncture in our history when its institutional structure is being challenged even amidst a period of great material prosperity. It is the right book for the right time with its message calling for renewal and a rebirth of our basic ideals. It is at once both practical and inspirational.

Presidential Tall Tales

Candidate Ronald Reagan proposed in 1980 to cut taxes, raise defense spending and balance the budget. When he got into office, President Reagan found that he couldn't keep the last promise, the only difficult one. We now know that Ronald Reagan and his wife Nancy turned to psychics for help in making decisions. He had the right idea but should have dialed 1-800-ANDERSON. An opponent of Reagan, John Anderson accurately predicted the increase in the budget deficit under Reagan's Administration. Anderson forecast problems with Reagans policies that were continued by his Vice-President George Bush, including over-dependence upon the Middle East for oil, the Persian Gulf War and the riots in Los Angeles. Also, having rejected an offer from Iran to release the hostages in exchange for help in procuring weapons, Anderson could have given Reagan one more piece of advice about arms-for-hostages deals: JUST SAY NO!
